March 2013
Very busy so far this year with training courses, a lot of repeat business, product photography for a jewelry designer, children and illustrated talks. I have also just won a contact to take photographs at a Prep school in the south of Sheffield and a large nursery , so April is looking very busy. The April courses are fully booked and the May courses 1/2 booked, contact the centre direct to book on but be quick.
Our wedding season kicks off later this month with the wedding of Candice and Nicholas in Chesterfield. Hope the weather is kind as there is some great locations outdoors in the hotels grounds.
Feb 2013
We the snow hasn't helped matters this month with quiet a few bookings cancelled, including three talks. However I did manage to lead a couple of photo training courses, both landscape. Two more Night sky courses await the right weather conditions as people are travelling from Leicester and Manchester. These are always exciting to run as most people are unaware of what the can capture with an ordinary DSLR ( see www.sheffieldphototraining.co.uk).
Also children photography took place for Nathan and Jodie, two completely different characters as you would expect , the boy was 4 months and the girl 5 months old
October 2012
After a busy September, we move into the Mother & Toddler / Nursery season which I always enjoy. This time it looks as though one group has 7 pairs of twins and one lot of triplets. Also a fair number of talks booked for the rest of the year and 20+ for next year. Towards the end I have a couple of Glamour shoots with models I have worked with before.

I have also agreed to offer photography training at Sherwood forest Pines centre near Edwinstow. June 2012
Well the weather doesn't improve making outdoor photography challenging, although with just over two weeks photographing in France and over 2,500 images I ave a lot to sort out. I did manage to fit in a model shoot with Kelly and the weather was kind for a few days The location was carefully chosen to show off her hair colour, complementing the green foliage.

May 2012
I have been asked to undertake quiet a variety of photography this month. I have worked with a charity to produce photos for promotional and website advertising, undertaken some produce photography of some small metal work items to update a website, taken some fantastic children and family photos, spent a number of days building a website, I will be doing an illustrated talk late in May and have completed several 1:1 training courses which have been a good mixture of people with different levels of knowledge but all have enjoyed these practical courses. go to www.sheffieldphototraining.co.uk to find out more about developing your photo skills
April 2012
It has been good to work with Bollywood Fashion and Soni Kuri Make up on a recent fashion show in Rotherham. The colours have been fantastic for photography and it turn out to be a great occasion, with a full house as well.
The only downside was that 3 models failed to turn up which left the 5 existing models to make 12 changes of clothing each, a very stress full time for all !!

March 2012
It seems I am getting well known on the talks circuit with 25 illustrated talks booked this year and several for next year, with venues as far afield as York- Nottingham.
A new up dated list is now available with 35 talks to groups either day or evening . To book please phone 0114 2501121
Feb 2012
It's always good to have a model shoot especially where the model knows what to do. Some are experienced and reliable , others are not yet say they are. So it was good to have a photo session with Kelly who is experienced and had some good ideas.
She turned up on time which is always a good sign, some have arranged a shoot then never turn up or phone, so its a bit hit and miss
The day was very cold but with superb lighting so we found a great location and worked away for a couple of hours. Kelly never complained while she had her coat off and she agreed to have another session later on in the year up at the general cemetery, which will go well with her Gothic look

January 2012

July 2011
Had a great pre wedding session with Angela and Gary. The weather came good for the session with heavy showers either side. Looking forward to their wedding in September

I loved to be ask to take new born or baby photographs. It's a great privilege to be asked into the parents home. The little ones may have only just arrived and this year I have covered a couple of 10 day old and well as those at 6 weeks and beyond

I have alot of patience which always comes in handy, I take time to enable the baby to be fed or changed and cuddled. When we are sure we have captured great shots of the little one then it's time to head off to process the photos.
The mothers are grateful that we have captured these in the comfort of their own home, they don't need to get ready to go out in the bad weather, carrying all the babies food, nappies and toys. They also cannot spare the time and are tired, that's why I come to you to spare you all the bother. I have the lighting and backgrounds to ensure a stress free session
I have just added a number of new illustrated talks including Shetland Flowers, Unst- Britain's most northerly island and Moorland wildlife. See that section for a description

I have been approached by someone who has recently lost his dad to heart trouble. He regrets that he hadn't any recent photos, with the most recent one 35 years ago. He has now arranged to have his mother photographed in time for mothers day.
It's not surprising, most elderly people don't seem to both with photos of themselves, but their children often seem to think that the old snap shot is sufficient until they find they are no longer with them.

I have always tried to encourage the senior people to have photos taken, see the over 55's section, they have much to offer, the faces are interesting and hold a life time of memories.
Book now on 07779302881 or through this website to ensure you don't end up in the same position. Don't forget it's a great for mothers day or fathers day gifts

With a portrait session, illustrated talk - nature in close up, a 50th birthday and a christening it's been a busy week. It gave me a chance to look at the Nikon 300s capabilities on using high ISO speeds. The Church we took the christening photos was quite dark. As we couldn't use flash during the service ISO1000 was used and even then only gave speeds of around 1/40 sec. The results however were great
Just completed a wedding on the 19 Sept at Mosboro Hall which went well, even the weather held, which up to 5mins from getting out of the car looked a long way off.
Some great photos especially of the bride in low light conditions next to the window. I will be posting these photos after they return fromn honeymoon.
On Friday i went to Wales for a photography course, this went well and now i am boosted with a number of fresh ideas for the future.
Having just returned from a second trip to France, i am just preparing for a few meetings with potential clients- Nursery, Mother & Toddler groups, portraits, christening and wildlife talks. In addition i am gearing up for the wedding on Sunday and attending a photographic course on the 17 Sept.
Typically i am getting a number of calls from webhosting companies who say they will get me on page one of google- they cannot understand it when i tell them i already appear 3 times on page one for childrens photographer Sheffield
August
I have now extended the wedding offer to the end of September so any brides out there wanting a bargin should contact me as soon as possible.

Contact me for further details.
Just completed another mother & toddler group session. One of the best groups so far, with most children taking part in the fun shoot. Some don't want to leave and are soooo photogenic. Even the mums took part in some of the shoots which kept the kids relaxed throughout.
May
Just agreed to photograph the Cheeky Monkey Tea Party on Saturday 19 July at Crosspool in Sheffield. Looks like plenty happening for all the family
April
I am now offering a special price for weddings as i need to build up my wedding portfolio.
Having done a number of weddings in the past, its a while ago since i did my last wedding, this was on film and for a photo company.
Although you never loose the technique it is good to be able to show a variety of new photos to couples.
Wedding photography is about the couples requirements. Weddings are about taking these requirements and having the necessary organisational & photography skills ,patience and an eye for a photo to capture the essence of the day
Collectively being able to take various close up's , portraits, groups and children to build a vivid picture of the day
This is essentially what i have been doing for a number of years with excellent feedback.
w/e 21 4 2010
After a hectic few weeks photographing and printing from three mother & toddler groups i have had a few days to recover before starting again on Thursday. Its always very enjoyable as every toddler is different, some very cooperative others not. You certainly need vast amounts of patience, especially for those young ones that can move about. As i am able to spend a bit of time with each tot i can at least offer a variation in poses, which is what the mothers want.

Just watched a youtube video on a wedding photographer in court- one reason not to hire a cheap wedding photographer. The judge knew far more than the photographer, which is always a bad sign.
I have recent come across three people who have had bad experiences with so called experenced photographers, two of which had city centre studios. The first took 17 months to produce the album, despite saying numerous times that it would only be a few more days.
The other two weddings could well have been taken by anyone with a compact camera. One in particular had not altered the colour balance and had created a set of yellow cast photos inside the reception (no flash used).
The last seem to have no idea on how to arrange groups with several people having their backs turned to the camera when taking the photo.
Its a shame that some photographers are even copying wedding images from other people's websites and using them as their own.
Its difficult choosing a responsible trustworthy photographer, look for reviews such as those on freeindex, and the range of other services offered such as portraits as well as the overall impression given from the website.
W/e 14 3 2010
Cannot believe that some photographers are being arrested for taking photographs in UK cities. see www.guardian.co.uk/uk/uksecurity.
I did hear that more than one person in London had been asked to delete all his photos as they thought he had taken them for terrorists, one was in fact an Australian just here on holiday and had taken Red London buses, Houses of Parliament etc for his own use
w/e 7 3 2010
If anyone is interested, i am giving an illustrated talk on Coastal birds to the Woodhouse Wildlife Group on Monday 22 March, commencing at 7.30pm, all welcome.
Venue: St James Church Hall, Tithe Barn Lane, Woodhouse, Sheffield 13

When we talk about colour we often just refer to the base colour. For most photographers they would like to see Red in the photo, which is very striking. However, this one basic colour has so many varieties, the Thesaurus identifies 104 shades of red. Do we have the words to describe the colour we see or what we photograph ?
These colours are not seen in isolation, they are surrounded by other colours, which have in them selves many varieties.
It's an amazing world.

Well christmas is over and we look forward to the opportunities 2010 will bring. Had a very enjoyable portrait over 55's session
during christmas. Everyone seemed up for it and all happy with the results.
For the first few,(included this photo) i had the light low and to the side for more dramatic effects.( taken in low-key lighting).
Then changed the lighting using a softbox directly above the camera and a additional light for the hair, which especially suited the women
w/e 12 December 2009
I love taking portraits, each person offers something different. The more senior people , those over 55 years old tend to be neglected when it come to portrait photography. They often feel no need to having a photo taken but when they do they are often pleased to be asked and amazed at the outcome. Its all aabout finding the appropriate lighting and usually low key lighting brings out the best features.

w/e 5 December 2009
Why do you choose a certain brand, have you got confidence in it, do they offer more than the other competitors- when it comes to studio lighting equipment, which system have you chosen. I chose the lastolite system as it offered a good range, not just lighting, but also backgrounds, in particular the hi-lite.
This is like a large box which can be illuminated from the inside giving a superb softlight for high key photography. As long as you have two stops more light on the background than your subject then it will give great photos if used in conjunction with a softbox.
You can also turn it round to the dark side, and use for low key photography.
Mind you you need the space, for mine at least 8' x8' for erecting and dismantling. Then the fun starts, folding it down. I suggest that you look at the lastolite training section where Mark Cleghorn gives you three ways of folding techniques !! (another reason for choosing this system)
w/e 22 November 2009
1. Why does everyone with a digital camera think they are Michael Bailey. Having just seen a wedding album taken by a friend of the bride and groom i can't help by feeling they got what they (didn't pay for)-this was supposed to be a wedding gift. But rather than pay for a professional photographer for what is supposed to be the most special day in their lives they ended up with a variety of bad and very bad images to remember the day.
It's not just a question of clicking away taking 100's of photo's in the hope they will get one or two decent photos. Its about the light, planning, experience and most important seeing the photo opportunity.
2. On a different note, anyone used a Fong lightsphere ? , they are brilliant for creating a soft diffused light from a flash gun. Let me know your thoughts!!

September
