Seems to be a busy month with enquiries for a variety of photography. With enquiries for weddings, Portraits, baby, Mother & Toddler and parties
Hope the weather is kind to anyone attending the cheeky Monkey teaparty on Saturday 17 July 2010. I will be inside what ever the weather, so seek me out.!
The teaparty was a success with many Rabbits, Tigers and non painted children coming over for photos. Seems to be more baby photos in the pipeline with another three contacting me this week.

Just returned from a trip to the Pyrenees and with plenty of photo opportunities i have been able to add two more illustrated wildlife talks to my list. One will give a general impression of our visit to the central Pyrenees, the other to a superb valley- vallee du Ossoue great for flowers and birds, including the Lammergier. Contact me for further details.
Just completed another mother & toddler group session. One of the best groups so far, with most children taking part in the fun shoot. Some don't want to leave and are soooo photogenic. Even the mums took part in some of the shoots which kept the kids relaxed throughout.

Just agreed to photograph the Cheeky Monkey Tea Party on Saturday 19 July at Crosspool in Sheffield. Looks like plenty happening for all the family

I am now offering a special price for weddings as i need to build up my wedding portfolio.
Having done a number of weddings in the past, its a while ago since i did my last wedding, this was on film and for a photo company.
Although you never loose the technique it is good to be able to show a variety of new photos to couples.
Wedding photography is about the couples requirements. Weddings are about taking these requirements and having the necessary organisational & photography skills ,patience and an eye for a photo to capture the essence of the day
Collectively being able to take various close up's , portraits, groups and children to build a vivid picture of the day
This is essentially what i have been doing for a number of years with excellent feedback.

After a hectic few weeks photographing and printing from three mother & toddler groups i have had a few days to recover before starting again on Thursday. Its always very enjoyable as every toddler is different, some very cooperative others not. You certainly need vast amounts of patience, especially for those young ones that can move about. As i am able to spend a bit of time with each tot i can at least offer a variation in poses, which is what the mothers want.

Just watched a youtube video on a wedding photographer in court- one reason not to hire a cheap wedding photographer. The judge knew far more than the photographer, which is always a bad sign.
I have recent come across three people who have had bad experiences with so called experenced photographers, two of which had city centre studios. The first took 17 months to produce the album, despite saying numerous times that it would only be a few more days.
The other two weddings could well have been taken by anyone with a compact camera. One in particular had not altered the colour balance and had created a set of yellow cast photos inside the reception (no flash used).
The last seem to have no idea on how to arrange groups with several people having their backs turned to the camera when taking the photo.
Its a shame that some photographers are even copying wedding images from other people's websites and using them as their own.
Its difficult choosing a responsible trustworthy photographer, look for reviews such as those on freeindex, and the range of other services offered such as portraits as well as the overall impression given from the website.

Cannot believe that some photographers are being arrested for taking photographs in UK cities. see www.guardian.co.uk/uk/uksecurity.
I did hear that more than one person in London had been asked to delete all his photos as they thought he had taken them for terrorists, one was in fact an Australian just here on holiday and had taken Red London buses, Houses of Parliament etc for his own use

If anyone is interested, i am giving an illustrated talk on Coastal birds to the Woodhouse Wildlife Group on Monday 22 March, commencing at 7.30pm, all welcome.
Venue: St James Church Hall, Tithe Barn Lane, Woodhouse, Sheffield 13

When we talk about colour we often just refer to the base colour. For most photographers they would like to see Red in the photo, which is very striking. However, this one basic colour has so many varieties, the Thesaurus identifies 104 shades of red. Do we have the words to describe the colour we see or what we photograph ?
These colours are not seen in isolation, they are surrounded by other colours, which have in them selves many varieties.
It's an amazing world.

Well christmas is over and we look forward to the opportunities 2010 will bring. Had a very enjoyable portrait over 55's session
during christmas. Everyone seemed up for it and all happy with the results.
For the first few,(included this photo) i had the light low and to the side for more dramatic effects.( taken in low-key lighting).
Then changed the lighting using a softbox directly above the camera and a additional light for the hair, which especially suited the women

I love taking portraits, each person offers something different. The more senior people , those over 55 years old tend to be neglected when it come to portrait photography. They often feel no need to having a photo taken but when they do they are often pleased to be asked and amazed at the outcome. Its all aabout finding the appropriate lighting and usually low key lighting brings out the best features.

Why do you choose a certain brand, have you got confidence in it, do they offer more than the other competitors- when it comes to studio lighting equipment, which system have you chosen. I chose the lastolite system as it offered a good range, not just lighting, but also backgrounds, in particular the hi-lite.
This is like a large box which can be illuminated from the inside giving a superb softlight for high key photography. As long as you have two stops more light on the background than your subject then it will give great photos if used in conjunction with a softbox.
You can also turn it round to the dark side, and use for low key photography.
Mind you you need the space, for mine at least 8' x8' for erecting and dismantling. Then the fun starts, folding it down. I suggest that you look at the lastolite training section where Mark Cleghorn gives you three ways of folding techniques !! (another reason for choosing this system)

1. Why does everyone with a digital camera think they are Michael Bailey. Having just seen a wedding album taken by a friend of the bride and groom i can't help by feeling they got what they (didn't pay for)-this was supposed to be a wedding gift. But rather than pay for a professional photographer for what is supposed to be the most special day in their lives they ended up with a variety of bad and very bad images to remember the day.
It's not just a question of clicking away taking 100's of photo's in the hope they will get one or two decent photos. Its about the light, planning, experience and most important seeing the photo opportunity.
2. On a different note, anyone used a Fong lightsphere ? , they are brilliant for creating a soft diffused light from a flash gun. Let me know your thoughts!!
